Cosmic Rays in Earth's Atmosphere are Intensifying

Soruce - Space Weather News for Aug. 29, 2016: http://spaceweather.com

COSMIC RAYS IN THE ATMOSPHERE: Spaceweather.com's high-altitude balloon program has just released another six months of radiation data. They show that cosmic rays in Earth's atmosphere are intensifying, continuing a trend that began more than a year ago.  Visit Spaceweather.com to learn why and to find out about the down-to-Earth consequences of cosmic radiation.

CHINESE QUANTUM PHYSICS SATELLITE: Did you know? Earlier this month, China launched a quantum physics satellite designed to beam un-hackable messages to Earth and test exotic theories such as quantum teleportation. An amazing photo featured on today's edition of Spaceweather.com shows the quantum satellite at work. Check it out.

Gigantic Hole in Sun's Atmosphere

Source - Space Weather News for Oct. 14, 2015: http://spaceweather.com

HOLE IN THE SUN'S ATMOSPHERE:  A gigantic hole in the sun's atmosphere has opened up and it is spewing solar wind toward Earth. Because this "coronal hole" is unusually wide, Earth could be inside the emerging solar wind stream for days. Minor geomagnetic storms are already in progress around the Arctic Circle.  Visit http://spaceweather.com for more information.

RADS ON A PLANE:  We have just completed a six-month survey of cosmic radiation on commercial air flights over the continental USA.  The results are highlighted on today's edition of http://spaceweather.com

Blue Moons and Atmospheric Radiation

Source - Space Weather News for July 27, 2015: http://spaceweather.com

TRANSCONTINENTAL SPACE WEATHER BALLOON EXPERIMENT:  Last week, Spaceweather.com and the students of Earth to Sky Calculus conducted a unique experiment in atmospheric radiation involving airplanes and high-altitude balloons launched simultaneously almost 3000 miles apart. For the next five days, we will be highlighting some of the results.  The news kicks off with some interesting measurements of cosmic radiation inside a commercial passenger jet.   Visit http://spaceweather.com for details.

BLUE MOON:  There's a full Moon this week and according to modern folklore it is a "Blue Moon."  Most Blue Moons are gray, as usual, but sometimes a Blue Moon can really turn blue.  Find out more about this phenomenon in today's edition of http://spaceweather.com
